Description
In the last few years the PANAPHONIC project has been set aside. The project leader Rob Colella has been busy producing many bands on his label (Funky Juice). Projects like Blackshapes, Moon Lagoon, Thundermeek, Air Sea Land Ensemble, The Tone Stars and The Yellow Waves. All produced between 2017 and 2019. In PANAPHONIC’s new production final destination is Cuba and in the itinerary we get into two typical aspects of the island’s tradition.
One is acoustic, romantic and passionate past, the other festive, tropical and danceable mood. The producer worked with two long-time collaborators/musicians both on an artistic and professional level. In the first song, entitled: “Cucurucho” the Argentine violinist and singer, (but transplanted in Italy) Melody Quinteros, intensely interprets both the vocal and the violin part, characterizing it with a very personal tonal nuance of the violin and with different tones in “chiaroscuro” of the voice that gave a distinct touch of originality to the whole. Furthermore, a splendid instrumental version of the piece is proposed, with a fantastic stride of the violin and a very passionate and profound exposition of the theme. In the song, she calls her lover with the nickname “Cucurucho” (the “cone” in a ice-cream cone) can’t take off her mind and calls him “love”, “treasure”, “cosita”, “gordito”, “cinito”, etc… She metaphorically fights what reminds her of him. The “Cucurucho” is the consistent part of the ice cream, the crunchy part, the less sweet part. And so while fighting against everything that he remembers, she can’t get it out of her head.
In the second song: “Hasta La Habana” the piano and the voice are by Emiliano Pari who masterfully descended into a Caribbean atmosphere with retrò tones and with passionate and vaguely melancholy timbres and colors. The text tells us about a man so in love that he doesn’t want to do anything but share everything with her. He always brings her along and dream about a world together where there is nothing but them and their love.
Additional musicians: Giuliano Bastianelli on guitar. His great experience as a multifaceted guitarist is the result of a the research that the musician has dedicated to the formation of his unmistakable sound, a mixture of Rock, Blues and English Pop.
The compositions and arrangements of both songs are by Emiliano Pari while the lyrics were written by Melody Quinteros.
